My Comodo antivirus just threw up an ad asking me to "please joins us on Facebook!" WTH? Is nothing safe from that cesspool anymore!? :mad

I just needed to vent that. I feel marginally better now... I need to go kill something. Maybe a dark spirit or an undead demon of some kind.

It was twitter a while ago, and now everyone is jumping on the FB bandwagon. You don't even really hear about twitter anymore. I pretty much treat the stuff like white noise.

Something else will come out and then that will be the hot thing. Just wish I could invent something stupid like that. :-D

I was called a Facebook snob by my sister-in-law last week because I don't have an account. Facebook and twitter are her life.
I'll waste my time on the internet in my own way.

    And then there's this.

Yea, I'd say an undead demon - probably too many of those floating around. :-D

It needs another political scandal to put it back in the limelight.

Funny you mention this on a related note AVG just updated itself and I was given the usual option to enroll in the feedback program to help them improve the security of everyone who uses it and improve the software. Usually to me this is a no brainer since I have never paid for AVG its only fair really but for my own curiosity I read the terms and conditions something I never usually do because I'd NEVER install or use any program:-D

So you want to spy on my whole computer and record everything that's on there so you can recommend products to me?

    Pass...

I thought I was the only one left!

Facebook and the like bug the absolute living crap out of me, I DO have an account but I rarely use it, only really to email someone who tells me to FB them instead of email. I get grief from co-workers for not replying or being on FB.
I SEE YOU EVERY DAY FOR 10-12 HOURS!!! No offense but I want to go home and converse with my good lady and my son and maybe some friends online who I never see or family back in England I havn't seen for 4 years like my father or brother or sister etc.

Facebook creates more problems, I couldn't tell you how many people I know who delete their account and then make new ones because of drama.
I know as a witness that kids are better off without it, my son would lose his internet as punishment for whatever reason. During the days he would have no access we would converse and he would be generally happy and joking, within 6 hours of getting his MSN (and then later FB) back he would be moody and ignorant and miserable because of all the teenage drama that is magnified and amplified by such things as MSN and FB.
Put 4 teenagers on FB and they will type 'til the cows come home.... sit them round a table and they don't know what to say.

Ok so I ended up going into a rant lol

What's funny for me is how vehement people on both sides are about it. I use Facebook. Do I care if anyone else does? Not so much. But people who go off on me because I do are equally annoying as those who go off on people who don't. Who cares? Does it directly affect my life or yours if we do or do not use Facebook? I didn't think so.

Oh, I use Facebook. A lot. But that's not the point. ;)

I don't like the way every single other website now has the option "sign up or log in with your Facebook account" (because that's really a good way to keep your accounts private and secure), and the way every single program I install these days wants me to like them on Facebook. If I wanted to do that I can find you without help, thank you.

Facebook is taking over the web! :eek

you know, I have a more robust LinkedIn account than I do Facebook.

About two years ago I jumped on the FB wagon. I realized right off the bat I made two mistakes:

    1. Listing in your profile what College you attended - everyone from that dang school started sending me invites. I'm thinking, hey that's great you graduated from the university in 1982, but I was only in second grade then!

    2. Listing the high school I attended - yes, bringing back high school memories was fun for about the first 15 minutes. that is until everyone and their dog from the old alma mater started sending me invites, and like a dummy I accepted them.

Next thing you know, I have to start explaining to my wife who Tisha is, answer questions if I have rekindled an hold high school flame, etc. Just wasn't worth it.

I deleted my account and let it stay that way for two years. Now I have another account, but I put none of my personal info on there that I listed above. I only use the account to administer our congregation's FB page.

I used to hate the way google was trying to insinuate itself into my life but now I don't care, it's just a tool 'of the day' just like facebook. I neither like it nor waste my time hating it, I just use it for the good friends I have met on the internet over the years, better than e-mail IMO or some messenger service. An instant forum so to speak. It's not even my real name.:-D

Oh, I got where you were coming from, and I agree! I would never sign into anyone's website using Facebook. It's just ridiculous how some people who aren't on Facebook view it as an evil empire, while some people who are on Facebook look at those who aren't as if they have a mental problem. It's just social networking, it's not a cure for cancer (or the cause of it).

    Is that not spam?

Mmm a AV company promoting a 3rd party! not the way I'd wish security apps to go personally.

Yeah I have a facebook and Linkedin account as for Facebook I just wanted to find one person and deargod™ many more popped up to "friend me" and Linkedin is a good way for me to keep up with MSFT contacts as there is an "app" on Win Mobile 7 for that that's good.
