It's Friday again!!!

So last weekend we had no success deer hunting. We saw 4 does and no bucks, and very little evidence of them either. My husband went back to work this week...in the same area we were hunting....immediately sees plenty of bucks. I swear, they know when you have a rifle on ya!!!

Anyway, this weekend we are having a roof party......I'm gonna have several willing and able men dancing on my house roof! LOL. We need new shingles so bad before winter hits...it's been a long time coming. I'm catering for a small army here!!!

It is Sooooooooooooooooooo lovely and cool here in Houston today ------- only 70 this morning. Got to go out with herself and play golf. First time this year I didn't sweat. Found out I'm a cool-weather golfer - shot 78

Guess we need to move back to Steamboat Springs. Much nicer there.

When I used to hunt, we would ALWAYS stop just inside the property and load our rifles, just in case we saw the big boy on the way in. One guy shot a 14 point buck that way one time. We banned him from the lease.

Saw this and thought you meant hunting after drinking, until I noticed the tail end of Gensuknives comment.

A good friend that has bagged a LOT of deer, but never got an elk, was sitting under a tree and clearing a jam from his BAR, when an elk literally walked up and looked him in the eye, face to face. LOL. He's still never gotten his elk. Deer & elk both get real canny in hunting season.

Hunting deer and elk is so different. Elk are naturally curious; deer are naturally skitty, so one will hang around and the other is usually off before you even knew it was there. Deer freak at the slightest twig snapping; elk are quite happy for you to come running through the woods and ignore you. It didn't surprise me I got no deer, although a disappointment. I have little experience yet, even though my husband does. Next weekend we go elk hunting, so maybe I will at least get to see some of the amazing creatures this time

 

Only......................what I meant was...............we loaded our rifles as SOON as we entered the lease for the first time, BEFORE going to bunk house and unloading bags, gear, etc.

Hehe...hunting in Oregon is so very different to Texas. I've watched a lot of the Texan hunts on the Men's Channel (sexist title!). Bunk houses ??? Entering the lease??? lol...what are these strange activities??? Next you'll tell me you hunt white tailed deer....

Since most of us live in the urban areas, we lease hunting land and usually it has a ranch house or line shack, etc. for sleeping, eating. And yes, we hunt white-tailed deer, until you get west of Junction -- or in deep south Texas where there are larger, mule deer.

 

Yup. My son-in-law got himself a 4 point mule deer two days ago. Very nice! Predominantly black tail here in the mountains.

 

Just don't like animal killing, not gonna go into a huge debate about it!

Hunting is fine - as long as you eat/use what you catch.

I went out for a mates 18th birthday today - pretty good considering the pubs in this crappy pub. Now listening to Leftfield for a bit of a chillout

 

I love venison! We've got plenty of hunters here, and there are plenty of deer on our property in Bushnell. Every year we end up getting some venison spaghetti and occasionally a steak, too.

Always do..in fact, last night we were cuting up our son-in-laws deer and getting it into the freezer.

So, what a weekend!

Half the workforce didn't turn up, so it all fell on my husband, our son-in-law and our brother-in-law to do the roof, with some help Saturday from one of our sons, but he was sick, so bless him for even getting out of bed!

My advice...having watch 3 grown men go from strong to severe exhaustion.....get people to sign a contract to help first!! LOL

The roof looks fantastic..they did an awesome job. Just glad we chose the 30 year-life shingles, and not the 20

I just don't like the idea of killing animals and not doing anything with them, I don't mind if you're going to use it for other things, like the meat, and don't mind so much about the fur, so long as it's being put to use.

But yeh my weekend was ok I guess, had a good party sat but an awful audition as stated in my other thread

 

Brutal. Wife barfed all weekend. Didn't get a lot done. Gonna have to doubletime it all this week. Man I need a vacation lol.
