Itune won't open

Everytime I try to open itunes I get an error message with the dreaded appcompat.txt. This jsuddenly started three days ago.
I have completed the steps in the Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan and Virus Removal.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 

What is the error message?

What is your operating system, what version of iTunes is it, and have you tried uninstalling, then reinstalling it?

 

I am running xp. I have tried reinstalling intunes, but without any luck. Everytime I open itunes, I get a message saying "itunes has encountered a problem and had to close down" in the tech info it mentions a appcompat.txt file.

When you say you reinstalled iTunes, did you completely uinstall it first?

If not try again.

Also, it may be conflicting with another program running in the background? (Does it start okay in Safe Mode)

Try closing as many non-vital programs running in the background and see if it works.
