Hey guys. I know you don't specialize in iTunes, but the Apple support site isn't helping at all with this problem, so I'm begging you for help. Until I tried to install the new version of iTunes today, it was working fine. But during the install, I got an error message. Just the generic "this program encountered an error and has to close." However, the installation finished "successfully" or so it said. I tried to open up the program and again got the generic error message. So I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, redownloading and reinstalling after uninstalling, and nothing works. So now I even tried finding the install file for the old version, which I installed, and now when I try to open the program it fails and gives me the error message. If there's anything you can suggest please do. I just want my iTunes back!

If the above does not work, then what is the actual error, verbatim?

    Or is this it?

"this program encountered an error and has to close."

I also see that you uninstalled it. So, did you also uninstall quicktime?

It seems quite a few people on the windows side are having issues with this newer version.

In addition, what OS are ye running?

Nice try, no cigar. Installing the old version of Quicktime then uninstalling didn't work. The error message I get is "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." And it asks me if I want to send an error report to Microsoft. Anyways, once again, I'm running xp.

Alright well somehow I got it working. I think it was a problem with quicktime. I uninstalled it again, installed an old version, then downloaded the quicktime + itunes package install file and low and behold it worked. Thanks for the help anyways. I'm just relieved after spending hours trying to figure out what the problem was. Silly computers.

pc will test your patients, how ever some of the people that have fixed this prob have found that later on it wont open again, i would check window update from time to time in the near future aswell you might see an itunes 'fix' or something like that, cheers

Hrrm, I thought you were doing this the whole time with the failures.

Didn't know you were installing the upgrade version.

Glad you got things worked out.
