itunes divides album into multiple albums on ipod

I'm putting an album into itunes using the 'automatically add to itunes' folder, or with the 'add folder to itunes' drop down option, and itunes is dividing up the album into multiple albums once it gets deposited into my ipod. (also in the song list on itunes)

Under the list of albums there will be multiple album entries with the same name, but there will only be one or few tracks in each. I think this is because of multiple artists listed under the same album title. It's really frustrating.

How do I get itunes to keep an album with multiple artists to keep all the singles structured under the same album title?

Any ideas?
