Itunes not working with Windows XP

I reinstalled Itunes on my PC but was forced to upgrade to Quicktime 7 .. since then, when I go in to Itunes, it stalls when 'Accessing Music Library' and won't work.

I thought it was a firewall problem, so to check it wasnt, I uninstalled Norton Internet Security. Even without that I still have the same problem.

I'm also worried that it may be related to the problem I'm having with using windows Update ... this also stalls and presents me with an error message saying that the site cannot be accessed. I followed the Microsoft fixes for this but nothing seems to make any difference.

I'm guessing that this all has something to do with trusted sites, restricted sites and internet options but don't know what to do

Can anybody help me get my itunes working again ? I would be incredibly grateful.
