Itunes, Virtual DJ, Windows 7 "users" path

    Ok, a little history:

I am a mobile DJ, I used to use a windows xp 32 bit machine.
I use itunes to sort, rate and make playlists with music.
I then use virtual DJ to access these lists and play live.

I switched to a 64 bit windows 7 machine and transferred all my libraries over successfully.

    However....

When I access my files in itunes either by clicking a playlist, or navigating through the itunes folder in virtual DJ my files are on paths like this:

    \users\djmatteo\my documents\my music

Now, lets say I search for a song using the virtual DJ console it will find the exact same song but it finds it on a different path:

    \users\djmatteo\my music

So what this does is basically messes up my playcounts, my already played songs and is a general headache.

I have tried to edit both my virtual dj library and itunes library files. The virtualdj file could not be edited to add the "my documents" part which is missing and have the files still be readable. When I edited the itunes xml file it didnt work either.

I am open for suggestions here, this is most frustrating. The easiest would probably be to just move my files out of the "users" area and just copy it all to a folder on my desktop or something, but I would like to resolve it without going to that extreme if possible. Editing those library files is a big pain!!

The "My Music" under "My Documents" is a symbolic link and not a shortcut. Symbolic links are normally hidden. If you check "do not show hidden files and folder" under folder and search options, you may likely solve your problem as the symbolic links will disappear.

Delete everything out of itunes and readd it from the current folder the music is in, this will of course mess up your previous playlists but any thing newly created should have the correct info.

@jconstan Very interesting tip, I will try that after work tonight when I get home for sure and see how that goes.

@colemanguy that is not really an option, since I make "essential" lists in itunes deleting and readding would literally destroy 80+ hours of work sorting.

Also @colemanguy I am not sure that would work either though, I did a find/replace in itunes xml to try to get my paths right. I found djmatteo/my music and replaced with djmatteo/documents and settings/my music and the problem persisted.

I will try the first option and if I cant figure out what the problem is I think I am just going to buy a new drive and make a big fat D: partition and put my music on there. The editing of my XML files to make sure I dont lose anything is a nightmare, but not impossible.

If anyone else has any suggestion I would love to hear them!

Yes, it would work, and as a a mobile dj myself i understand the pain of your play lists but you have two options to update the file paths, manually editing all of them to link to the songs in the new location, or remove them from your library and readd them.
