    (Using Windows Vista.)

Ok - I've had iTunes forever with no problems, but about a week ago it suddenly wouldn't recognize my iPod, saying the "software wasn't correctly installed." So I did what Apple told me to do and uninstalled iTunes, along with every other Apple-related program. But every time I try to reinstall everything, I get an error about an "unknown key."

I already had Registry Reviver on my computer, so I'm assuming that isn't the problem. I've been doing sort-of research on the registry and have successfully located these "unknown keys," along with adding all the required permissions etc. When I do this, though, and attempt to reinstall iTunes yet again, I get the same error message with a different strand of numbers. I've done this at least five or six times now and I'm completely fed up.

I don't appear to have any viruses, but I'm sure I could since there don't seem to be any programs that actually catch them all. Help would be extremely appreciated.

Does iTunes allow itself to be installed in safe mode perhaps? You could do this in safe mode with networking or just download the install file to your desktop and install later in safe mode.

Not sure this will help. I have seen iTunes do some funny things to systems, and not in a good way funny.

Didn't work. :( Thank you though.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?

    Hi

Personally I would uninstall Registry Reviver and/or not use it as it seems at times to be too radical in what it removes from the registry and that could be the issue you are having.

I would follow all of the troubleshooting steps http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926 and start with the General Troubleshooting steps to remove fully iTunes, but also double check in Add/Remove that all Apple and iPod related items are uninstalled (iPod Device Manager, Bonjour etc) and to clean your temps and registry use CCleaner as its alot safer application IMHO. Do also disable your antivirus and security software when uninstalling using the Apple steps just in case they conflict or cause issues.

Also this article is worth reviewing http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
