I've been infected with a SERIOUS virus and cannot identify it or get rid of it.

When this thing appeared, it began by printing "6666666666666666..." repeatedly in my address window and my search window. It quickly shut down my firewall, removed my Norton stuff, prevented me from opening folders, removed the cursor when I went into GoBack, so that I couldn't select anything, and eventually REMOVED "My Computer" and "My Documents" from my computer. Everything GONE! I ran every antivirus and spy detector program I have. They removed several things I don't know anything about. I used GoBack by accessing it through "Start-Programs-GoBack" and reset the computer. Everything worked great for a day or so and then the evil virus returned and did the same thing.

Does anyone know what this virus is called and how to get rid of it?

• Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

• CounterSpy
• AVG Antispyware Log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
• Bitdefender - from step 6
• Panda Scan - from step 6
• runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
• newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
