... now what do I do, apart from a Full Backup before I start.

    AutoPatcher XP Full May 2007
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/AutoPatcher_XP_Full_d4901.html

Anyone used this lately, or in the past?

How much control over what is updated do you have?

I have a friends PC, and my old DELL desktop that are way behind in updates.
Both XP home PC's with SP2, to start.

Looking forward to your answers. :D Bazza

Man, the new broadband and the new MG girls have gone to your head.

Auto patcher is great, 200meg of your download is SP2!

Just run it, critical stuff is automatic, you get to choose about IE7, but at least you are sure that the conenction won't drop out half way through.

I much prefer to use this after a reinstall these days, rather than connect to msoft and try to do all the updates.

BTW the Marston's Pedigree (ale) is specially good this year.

Run the installer first. After that, run Autopatcher. Afterwards you can uninstall it. If the PC is offline or on a slow connection, you can download Autopatcher updates and transfer them by removable storage to keep it up to date.
It has a tree style listing for all the updates, addons and tweaks. You can then expand each category and select individual items or the whole category if you wish. The critical, recommended and component updates are selected by default. The WGA, addons and tweaks are not.

I've used it without incident on several PCs.

Still trying to tweak the broadband settings. confused

The download took 30 minutes at around 10 megs per minute.
Glad to see that 200 megs is SP2. Can forget about that at least.:)

I think it's the reason 4X will never make much impact round here.
