I have the latest version of Java (7.25), but this appears in add/remove, also.

Another post prompted me to ask if it's safe to remove this Java program. Not sure if this is an older removable version using a different name (newer versions are labeled "Java 'version number and update here'") or if the updates are added to this as part of a Java framework or whatever...

Googled and found only old references that weren't specific enough for me to be able to discern exactly what this program is...:-o

Java 7 update 25 in add/remove programs is legitimate. You should also see a Java icon in your control panel to quickly enable and disable java.

I prefer to use JavaRA to remove all Java.

Java used to be extremely poor at removing old versions when it updated. I think this was finally fixed in v 7, update 22. Before that, a computer might have several updates of v6 and several updates of v 7 that were security risks.

Note: I do not recommend using JavaRA to install the latest version. I did that once and got an out of date version so I had to run it again to clean off Java.
