Just downloaded latest Java update from MajorGeeks.
    AVG found zipper.exe as malware.
Got rid of the download. Downloaded from the Java site. Same story.
Anyone know what is going on?

It must be a false positive.

Duh! I just went to the Java site and downloaded Java 6.24 and it is CLEAN, according to a scan I just did with AVG 2011.

I just now scanned it with "Malwarebytes" as well, and that scan was CLEAN as well.

I would be doing a full scan or your computer with at least both of those programs.
It's possible the download file is being infected "In Transit" or as it comes into your PC.

    Good Luck,
    Shadow :)

PS: Unfortunately, some folks are still using AVG 9.0 FREE...... that is seriously out of date and should be updated to AVG 2011 as soon as possible. I'm sure that download file is available at Major Geeks. I get a good share of my software here.

I just downloaded the update from the Java site. AVG2011 cleared it and installed OK.
The first download was from Internode the majorgeeks mirror in Australia. The second one was from the Oracle website.
AVG picked the problem on install. It cleared on download. The automatic scan. I did not do a manual scan

Don't know what happened, but these sort of things should not happen from trusted websites,

    Regards,
    Lance

    Hi Lance,

These sort of things don't happen from this website, I can't vouch for other "trusted" sites though. Just to reiterate what Dr. M said, ALL files are tested before being put up for download. I've downloaded so many things from here and I've never once had a problem. I would, however, take Shadow's advice and give your hard drive with a scan just to see if you've got anything lurking. It surely can't hurt anything.

Before installing a file, if there's a question as to whether it's infected, this is a good tool: http://virusscan.jotti.org/en-GB

I have never once seen any reported software download on here actually be infected. It has always been a false positive.

Thank you though for posting as it is important to check out.

I just notice Satrow's link is for a file scanner too. Bookmarked. :)
