java applet error, i think?

when i go to chat rooms like chat-avenue.com it loads the java applet to run the room, in the past ive had no problems with it, but with a fresh install of mce2005 i fully updated everything, dotnet framework, java rte v6, and latest everything, now when i run the chatroom applet i can see, send, and do everything else but the problem is i cant see emoticons, they just appear as the text that makes them, for instance i dont see the rose emo, i just see : rose and beer becomes : beer and so-on, any ideas? thankyou.... :major i-CONICA:major
