    Hi,

I have a tomcat webserver which has an embedded Mckoi database. I'm trying to produce jsp webpages and, until this evening all was well. Now I find I have the error message "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space" when I try to use SQuirreL SQL client to access the database and get a similar message about the heap space when I access some of my jsp pages from my webserver.
I have no idea what I can do to remedy this situation. I have java version "1.5.0_06" J2RE Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-b05).

any thoughts, ideas or pointers will be gratefully received!!

Thanks I have some understanding now of what the issue is but I'm still in the dark about how to sort it. I have downloaded Netbeans 5.0 IDE with the profiler tool and looked at what is happening. It seems that the lifetime of much of what is running is too long. I can't tell how to find what to do about this. If I am looking to increase heap size then the article you pointed me to talks about specifiying the heap size from the java command line but I'm running windows XP and just go to Services and find the apache tomcat and click on it. Not sure how to access the java command line. If I do this will it solve the problem or just give it more memory to go at before it reaches the same point. If so how do I trace down where I need to change my code?
    Any more advice welcomed!
