Last night,I was on Facebook.Usually,2-3x a year we trend on CNN and others. We do animal/dog rescue work.I posted a special call-out last night and it was flooded.FB got jammed for us.Message kept repeating:javascript slow or unresponsive.I was unable to do anything. Then,a message (after I logged out) came up:fatal error in javascript.According to help on Oracle,we should remove all older versions of Javascript with their tool.We could not use their tool.It would not open,Finally removed all javascript (we only had 8 version) with IOBIT uninstaller.Fine.Next,we finally downloaded (from Oracle)the JXPIINSINSTALL.exe file.Nothing.Error message kept repeating "the procedure entry point GETLOGICALPROCESSORINFORMATION could not be located in Dynamic Link Library kernel32.dll"
I cannot download a prgram to repair/correct kernel32.dll. Now,I cannot properly enter most websites without javascript. What can I do???All help from Oracle was met with error messages. As always, your expertise is deeply appreciated.Thank you in advance,Barbara
PS:eek:ther info-we are running winXP on 13 yr old HP desktop (all hard wired)(thanks to MG,we are running clean of viruses etc.Have app 94%space on :C drive and 96% on :D drive.Due to age of computer and capabilities,we are limited.)Computer was running tops prior to Facebook : (

    Your message
doesn't have anything to do with Java.

I think the tool was to remove Java, not Javascript.
    Got a link?
I found this for Java not javascript.

Truthfully, I'd dump Java and not worry about installing it. I do not have it installed on our four Windows 7 computers and it is probably gone from the two XP computers.
You do not need Java to browse the internet.

Javascript is part of the browser you are using. If you try and remove it, you'll probably wreck the browser.

You failed to mention what browser and version of browser you are using.

Note: I do not take the XP computers on the internet and I have NEVER used Facebook so my support to help you will be limited by those 2 facts.

THANK YOU BOTH! After 4hours of working on it, I figured out (almost)what you both wrote).I am running tippy-top,once again.I use Firefox.I always maintain current updates with Google,Chrome,Firefox.Out of curosity, why do you not run the XP on internet? I have no other computer and, right now, cannot buy any updated newer one.Thank you,Social Security, for that one. On side note-God Bless all of you at Major Geek.We are (really)old timers here and we have learned so much from you in past 10 years+.You have never failed to help. You have been most patient with this old lady ;) AND,you have kept the old computer running. You ALL deserve a special Holiday filled with peace and happiness.
    :)Barbara

    Thanks for the holiday wishes.

The reason you shouldn't go online with Windows XP is because Microsoft ended support for it on April 8, 2014. So, there have been no Security Updates for it since then.

If you go online in XP now, you're EXTREMELY vulnerable to attack by malicious software that could even render your computer unbootable/unusable and then our experts at the Malware Forums wouldn't be able to help you especially since, apparently, this is the only computer you have.

I am a female senior citizen myself.
Eventually support for XP through Firefox will end.

Have you ever considered a tablet to browse safely? They are a lot cheaper than a computer. And you can install Firefox on it. (we have 8 computers in the house and use the Windows 2000 and XP computers just not on the internet).

I bought a 7" tablet in 2014 to take pictures because we don't own a smart phone and see no reason to pay a high monthly cellphone bill for things we never use. I learned how the Android OS works. I use it for browsing, at times, watching movies that I have on a micro sd card in a slot on the tablet and reading books.

Last month I bought a 10.1" tablet because I really like android but wanted a larger screen for my "senior" eyes. The 7" is very handy to travel with but at home, it is nice to use the larger size with a bluetooth keyboard (purchased for $5 at the Five Below store chain). It is like working on a laptop.

THANK YOU very much.Been thru this route.I had a stroke not that long ago-left me permanently blind in one eye and weak in other.I need at least 14-15" with a decent full keyboard.Looks like my old trusted computer will also be stroking out.I am old heart and do not trust wifi.Crappy eyesight as I may be:I see the writing clearly on the wall : (

Then you should consider a laptop.

Thank you again.I know.I am caught between a rock and a hardplace.I guess I will run it until it blows up. I took pleasure that I "obtained"(on darkweb) a little nasty for 2 little crappers I traced.Surprise.Their computers blew up before old me.Yes,good peeps,I will do something.I know that. But,you should know that in 10+years you taught me what school would never teach.I also have to thank the greyknight. He is a HJT peach also! God Bless to the MG!!!!!
