java is really a problem - ARGH!!!!!!

So I downloaded the Java 6 update 23 and all hell broke loose with the clock on my computer running fast and also game timers on pogo running way too fast. So, I try to delete J6u23 and it tells me my access is denied. I try to delete in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with networking and neither would do it. I go to Java and find nothing to help other than it saying I have the current Java running (duh). Java not showing in Add/Remove Program list. Write to Electronic Arts on Pogo and they send me to a Java connection that says it will delete J6u23 and they recommend once that's done I should go back and download J6u22 and it should run okay again (the clocks). Well, needless to say that didn't work and so I go into My Computer, C Drive, Program Files and click open Java which comes up with one file and I delete it. Oops. Not a good thing. Try the directions from Elec. Arts again on Java and no go. Won't load and comes up with error messages after asking if I want to replace a Java file that already exists. I tell it yes and still no go. I then try a System Restore to 2 days before the J6u23 download. Bigger ooops! Not only can I not download J6u22 or u23, but I can't even get Java to scan and check my current version. :tas So, EA has a tutorial saying how to find java in your system and I try that. That didn't help either, so I have decided to run search for all files containing the term "java" and it is a huge list. It appears there are numerous copies at this point too. Which I guess isn't surprising. I saved a copy of the search if you think it would help to see it. I'M LOST (and even worse I can't play on Pogo:cry). Any help would be very, very much appreciated. I just wish I'd stopped and come here first as you've helped me with other problems in the past, and yes, I now know I should have saved my registry before doing a Restore. Lesson learned, albeit too late. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello,
You can see if this little utility will help. Also Revo Uninstaller might be able to do the job if Java appears in add/remove programs. Also make sure you do this in an admin account. See if Revo will work first.

Unfortunately, java is not appearing in Add/Remove programs, just in My Computer, C Drive, Program Files and it won't let me delete from there for some unknown reason. Says it's either restricted or running on another program, but I know it's not. Thanks for trying though. Any other ideas?:confused

Sorry, didn't realize that the THIS was actually a link. What does that one do?

It tries to remove all traces of java. Hopefully it will remove the latest version also.

Thanks much. Will go try it now and will let you know how it works. Will it actually remove all the java programs presently on my computer, including J6u23?

I am hoping it does. On there website, it says the database entries were updated for J6u23 but I am not sure if will only delete java updates older than 23 or it includes 23. If you are running Windows 7 or Vista, right click and run as administrator.

OK, I'm feeling truly inept now. I went to Ra and it downloaded as a zip file. How the heck do I run a program from a zip file?

Just double-click the zip file. The exe file in it should then appear and you can then run it.

OK, wow, that was fast. I found a report from it that told me all the java stuff it removed so it must have run. Guess I did something right. LOL Now to see if the J6u23 is there and running. bbiab

No go folks. Computer won't even allow me to open the java download page at java.com. Argh. It goes white and says the tab was closed due to an error. Does the same thing when I try to open a game on pogo. Will open the game page but when I enter a room, the room screen and game page go white and then just the game page appears. Won't let me enter a game. I'm still lost. Thanks for any forthcoming input.

Since you deleted all of your java entries download the full installer here and reinstall.

Tried to download and it came up with a msg. saying it already existed, did I want to reload. Hit yes and another sign came up saying it was only good for programs which already exist. Said okay to that. This happened twice and then it disappeared and nothing else happened. What a mess, huh? Now what?

If possible, do a system restore before the date this happened. I will be off until tomorrow. Hopefully somebody will add there thoughts

Thanks, but I had already tried that before I wrote to Geeks. Thanks for all the input and goodnight. I'll keep checking to see if anyone else has any ideas. :>)

the java download installer still might be lurking in your machine, use this App to remove anything that you see that is java related on the list ,then try to reinstall java again, and running CCleaner registry clean-up may help after you remove the leftover entries before you reinstall

Well, mixed results Sik. Thanks for the input. Did get Java to load again, but could only get Java SRE 6 update 23, so I'm back to the original problem of the computer clock and game clocks running too fast. LOL Seems I've gone full circle, but given that I had lost java altogether and now it's back, it's a start. Anyway, any more ideas about the clock problems?

I think I have found something regarding your problem. Here was a post from somebody with the same Pogo problem.

You can see that for pogo games he added the parameter

    -XX:+ForceTimeHighResolution

You have to add this parameter to the Java Console that you get to in Control Panel and clicking the Java tab.

Now you want to change the java applet runtime settings by clicking the view button.

    http://www.markheadrick.com/images/screenshots/raceview_javacp_runtime_settings.png

Now in the java runtime parameters you would add the following.

    -XX:+ForceTimeHighResolution

Hopefully this will help but not guarantees.

Hiya T. Thx, had tried that before I even came to Geeks. What is the command under Run Time Parameters in the example you gave above -Dsun.java2d.noddraw..........? The space for Run Time Parameters was totally empty before I had entered the XX:+ForTime yada yada. BTW, I don't think there should be a dash before the command, should there?

Oh, and I did enter it again this time, but it still didn't fix the clock and timer. Thx though.

That image was just an image I found of the control panel, I am not sure what the command does. I do believe that there should be a dash before the XX though.

    I found this though.

Well T, right again! It does need the hyphen before the X and guess what, my timer on the game is running correctly. :-D Now I just wonder if I typed it wrong the first time I downloaded java.:confused Could have saved myself about 5 hours of trying to fix the problem!!!! Isn't that always the way? The simplest solution can be the right one after all. Well, anyway, as usual with my Geek lessons, I've learned a lot! Thanks to all of you for the help. I hope I don't need you again soon, but I must say it sure is nice to know you're there if I do. :wave Take care all!!
