I recently reinstalled Windows XP. I tried to go into a chat room and I got the message error stating my browser does not support Java. Before the reinstallation this was not a problem. I was not given the option to reinstall Java when this message appeared. Any suggestions?

Might try checking your browser settings. Go to Tools/Internet Options/Security Tab. Click on each icon from left to right & they should be...MEDIUM...MEDIUM LOW...LOW...HIGH. Click on Privacy Tab & it should be MEDIUM. Click on Advanced Tab & scroll down & see if there is any mention of Java. The setting should be set to DEFAULT.

If you don't see anything about Java in Advanced, you may need to d/l Java for the desktop PC from Sun:
    http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
It will check to see if you have the current version of Java installed. If you need to d/l, look in top right corner.

    Hope this helps,

    Hawk :)

Thanks. I actally went into tools last night and saw no mention of Java. I'll look again today. Someone told me that Java does not come with XP so when I reinstalled XP, did it just erase it? Also is it possible the vendor installed it seperately from XP? Is it a big deal to download it again? I was just surprised that I wasn't given the option automatically in Windows. I have IE 6.0.

    Thanks again.

the MS JVM DOES infact come with Windows XP.. However, SP1a actually removes this as a result of the settlement between MS and SUN. Suns Java kit is all you need.

So I get this kit from the website? Is it easy to install?
    Thanks.

MA has included an excellent "how to" on java install and other great tips in his spyware post. Click here to read it.

I ran the java test and it says I have the newest version of Java! However I did not see 'Java' in Internet OPtions "Advanced", yet the test page shows that I have the latest version. I went back to the chatroom and it still says the browser does not support Java. I have the google task bar with pop up blocker. Could this be something affecting it? Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks.
