JAVA problem on new PC

I just used PCmover to move my 10-year-old XP stuff onto a new HP PC using Windows 7. I cannot get JAVA to run on the new machine. The JAVA website indicates that JAVA is not installed on the machine. When I try to install it, the installer indicates that it is already installed, and would I like to reinstall it. When I click "yes", it indicates that that action is valid for products that are already installed.

Note that I use Firfox for a browser, and it appears to have transferred onto the new machine without incident (except that JAVA will not run......)

On another note, as I work through the new machine's issues, I now find/found that with IE Explorer I cannot view an IP camera which I have set-up at a weekend place, with a message about JAVA Runt-Time Environment not being installed. I installed it, unfortunately not noticing until too late the message indicating that the Windows versions it would work with did not include Windows 7. The camera feeds in MJPEG. When I put it into a "refresh rate", it does work.

So, no MJPEG webcam feed with IE Explorer, although it works fine with Firefox. I note also that another "public" webcam DOES work with Explorer, but DOES NOT work with Firefox.
