Java Problems

Hi. I was going through the list on this site to make my computer more secure. I uninstalled the original java with the UNMSJVM program and installed Sun Java JRE version 1.6.0_01. I rebooted the computer and went to Yahoo to play some games. The game wouldn't load, so after searching through some help on Yahoo's site I discovered that when I click on Tools->Internet options-> Advanced and then scroll down to where Sun Java is listed it has
Java (Sun)
[box checked] use JRE 1.6.0_01 for (applet) (requires restart)
I figure ok thats an easy fix. I reboot and try it again. When the game fails to load up again, I go back to internet options and it still says requires restart. I turn off my computer and leave it off for about 5 min. and try it again. Still the same. Thanks for any help you can offer in advance.
Comp stats:
OS= XP sp2
CPU= AMDXP 2600+
Ram= 2GB

 

Open Java through the control panel and check settings. Is its folder on the C: drive in Program Files? There should be a link on the games site for help with Java problems, at least Pogo has one. Microsoft's java virtual machine isn't secure, although I left it on the laptop but do not have access enabled to it through Set Program Access And Defaults in Add or Remove Programs.
Bug

 

Yes it is installed correctly as far as I can tell. The icon is in the control panel and there is a folder in C/program files. It just won't activate cause it says it requires a restart. I tried it in safe mode and still no luck. I think I'll just have to reformat and start from scratch. Must be something burried someplace that is messing it up. I'll wait for my pokey dial-up to finish downloading firefox and toss it on a CD with my other have to have programs. Reformat and see what happens.
