IE5.5 seems not to like me, i have endless trouble on my favourite sites such as fileplanet. I keep getting those annyoing java script error boxes asking me if i want to debug. Also, i cannot download anything from fileplanet, as when i click the link, the same box comes up, and when i close it, no download box is opened up. I have the same problem when i try to listen to Radio 1 and XFM online. How can i resolve this problem?

The box looks like the one i have posted, obviously the line number changes per box.

Do you have any pop-up stopper software running?
have you checked your security settings in IE?

also, what OS, and thought about upgrading to IE6? there are many security enhancements

    or trying mozilla, etc

I'd definately download IE6. There's no reason not to. Although, like goldfish, I thought it came with IE6. I thought it was built to go with XP.

Check to see if you're using the Sun or the MS Java Engine. Go to IE / Tools / Options / Advanced. Scroll down to Java (Sun) and Microsoft VM. Make sure both the JIT and the Java Applet are checked. All you really want to do is make sure you're using the Sun engine. MS's is a pile.

Alternately, you should be able to go Start / Settings / Control Panel / Java Plug-In. Under the Browser tag, make sure IE is checked.

If you can't do either of those because there's no such thing on your machine, you'll need to download the Java Runtime Environment from http://java.sun.com/ . You might want to do that anyway, since a newer version is probably available (1.4.1.02 is most up to date, although IIRC, 1.4.2 Beta is out).

I'd always thought the JRE was not for scripting, but I had to turn off Sun's Java for a computer class I took (explicit call for a MS Java component). After I finished my work, I went to browse the Internet... and got script error after script error.
