Java setup problems

WinXP Home SP3 - I was performing some general maintenance on this dude's PC: cleaning junk files, temp files, cookies, unneeded software, etc. His McAfee security software was expired (2 years ago!) and was removed with their removal tool. He had 8 updates for Java listed in Add/Remove Programs and I used JavaRa to remove 'em. I've used JavaRa many times in the past for the exact same thing and never had problems. So it removed the unneeded updates without incident. I rebooted, went to Add/Remove Programs and proceeded to remove the main Java Runtime so I could install the newest one. It wouldn't uninstall: an error continued to pop up about how it couldn't find a file "uninst" and I'm 95% sure that it was NOT an .exe extension; it was .is or .iss I think. So I downloaded the offline installer from java.com and it wouldn't install; I get the error you see attached below. So I used Revo to uninstall the Java Runtime, rebooted, and again tried to install... no dice. Again with the error you see below. I browsed to the location listed in the error and couldn't even find the file in question, so maybe that's why I'm getting the error?

Any ideas?

 

:celebrate Problem solved. Ran CCleaner on the HD and registry. Manually searched for and removed anything related to Java in registry and on HD. Installed newest MS Windows Installer from the redist download (v4.5 I think). Downloaded the offline Java installer again but this time on a different PC, and installed it from a thumb drive. And it installed and working fine.
