Anyone who uses Java should be aware that new versions have been released and Oracle are pressing for users to update it as a priority. Many bugfixes and security issues have been addressed. Latest versions are 6 Update 31 and 7 Update 3.

Java page, note that when I checked a short time ago, the version checking page still classed 7.1 as the latest version, update manually to be sure. If you have 64 bit Java programs or browsers installed, you will need to download both 32 and 64 bit versions.

Side note: plugins like Java and Flash can be enabled and disabled 'on the fly' in your browsers - whenever I begin a new browser version, I always disable all but Flash and Google Earth, it's very rare that I need to enable any others. Stay safe!
