Java wont work!

I installed that windows xp patch w/ the firewalls and it made my java virtual machine not work in internet explorer. I deleted and reinstalled it, and it still wont work. Any suggestions?

I agree with jarcher! The Microsoft version of the Java Virtual Machine has never been patched or updated, as per agreements between Sun and Microsoft. This leaves it open to all kinds of attacks. I believe that Microsoft even offers a program to remove their JVM. I have it on my hard drive, and make it a point to remove it from every computer that I work on. Download Sun's version of Java , as it has been patched/modified for problems.

 

While we are here, I have not been able to uninstall microsoft's java with the string posted. I installed sun java and was wondering if folks know of difficulties that may arise. Google gave me a jillion + "1.5 jigowatts" results btw.

Actually thats the reason why i think it doesnt work. When i was fixing spyware, i got the sun java instead, and it wont work with my ie. ANy suggestions?

 

did you remove javavm?

 

Umm. I couldnt delete ms jre via run "RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection java.inf,UnInstall." It couldnt find it. Instead, I deleted it from the control panel. EIther way, it still wont work.

 

did you leave out the Quotes?when you did it?

yes i left out the quotes. The thing is, my pc is new and came with the sun version so thats why it cant find it. Either way, i reinstalled it. I am using firefox, and i cant run applets. >_<!!!

 

yea. .I had the same problem when I installed it
I am ok now. .I really don't know what I did. . . .


all I can think of is that I disabled system restore when I removed everything
rebooted. . . installed sun and firefox
ran the sun java so that a little tray icon apeared rebooted
and I am fine now. . .

 

Have you by chance gone into tools, Internet Options, Advanced, and made sure you java is checked? This is on Internet Explorers top bar. When I installed SP2 I had the same problem with java, and had to go in anad check that box for sun java, then reboot, and it fixed itself. Also, if you do any java games with chat, you need to add the sites to your safe zone under Tools, Internernet Options, Security, then Trusted sites. Here you need to uncheck the box at the bottom that says required server certificate, add the site, then recheck the box. Hope this helps someone.

Baselerd: When I use Firefox for java, the first time it told me I had to download the extention for it, which I did, and it works fine for me. Just go to a page that you want to run java on, and it should tell you that you need to install the plug in, and should take you to that download. Did that help getting IE up and running for you? Remember IE has that firewall now, so you should get a lil box in the top left hand corner where you have to allow the download.
