My o/s is Win7 64 bit. I have tried multiple ways to reinstal Java (somehow or other it disappeared!). I can neither delete any Java remains on my PC or instal the current update or older model without encountering ERROR 1723 - this is reference to a .dll which I have downloaded and installed in SYSTEM32 as suggested with no luck - not even the Java logo which is normally on my PC.:cry

 

It is never a good idea to download DLL files from the Internet; better look for the appropriate installer.

As for the JRE installer; try downloading the offline installers from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index-jsp-138363.html#javasejdk

Note that you may need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit versions on a 64-bit system.
