    Any JavaRE later than V6 update7 can't be install without getting this message:
    "instalation failed, wizard was interupted"

    V6 update 7 installs with no issue.

    Details;
    XP Pro sp3,
    Tried V6 update21 (current) down to update 10 all failed,
    These are all the full offline versions direct from their website,
    No AV program running,
    I even used a specific program to remove all traces of old installs called JavaRa;
    http://raproducts.org/wordpress/software
    No other error message or error numbers.

    Ideas??

    Run JavaRA and click on Additional tasks. Check/tick the first three items and run it. Then after that is done, click on Remove Older Versions. Does it work?
    If not, what error? If yes - reboot before you do anything else.

    i had a similar issue with the last java update,i used JavaRa like i always have done,but i still could not install the up-date,ran javara again ,still would not install,then i opened up the windows install clean-up http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html ,turns out the download manager and java updater were still in the machine in spite of checking them in the javara additional task menu...first time that's ever happened ,
    anyway the install cleanup tool removed them and java reinstalled without a hitch

    I did delete all "Java" registry entries but not Sun, JRE or Javasoft entries per Sun's suggestions.
    I saw that Windows 'Office' program, but what would that have to do with Java?? :confused

    But why would a old version install with no issue??

    I seems to work on all installations of applications that use .msi installers.

    I've successfully used it in the past on non-Office installs.

    Maybe the older Java installed via a different method or less thorough checking.

    I tried that MS app. and the 1st time I used it a 'auto update' entry appeared in the list. I forgot exactly where it was, but I deleted it.
    The reinstall still failed.

    I then used a older image of the drive and restored it. When I un-installed the older Java version (up7) and checked that Install tool, there was no entry. I did a Reg. scan and found a few removable items. The reinstall still failed afterwards.
