My McAfee picked this up last night. I rarely open any emails on my computer. I did use a friends flash drive (the evening prior) to get pictures from his computer. The next day his McAfee picked up the same thing on his computer. He is telling me he thinks he got it from my computer however, he remembers opening up an email earlier in the day that looked like it contained an attachment and yet did not have one visible. UGH! Could the person be spreading it around in email?

I am a powerpoint buff and often search the internet for images. Could I have picked it up from one of the sites or did it most likely come from an email on his computer?

Anyway, I ran McAfee and it is "Quarantined" and not "Removed". Do I need to do anything further? :confused

    Thanks Much for the help!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Yes emails can be used to spread infections. And yes you could have picked it up from a site you have accessed too.

    Why not remove it?

If you want to know if you are really clean, the below is recommended.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
