Hey peeps, just got hit with a decent virus and took my pc to a tech. I'm looking for a good selection of tools that will work well together and in close unison. My school grants are doing the buying so heres what I had in mind...

Trend Micro AV+Firewall or Panda Security Suite (purchased edition)

Norton Ghost or Webroot Windows Washer (for backups and invisible surfing)

    Spyware Doctor or Webroot Spysweeper

Before I used Avast!Free without much luck, but what are some of your programs that you really trust for protection. After reading through the FAQ's I saw a whole bunch of free programs but I want the Pro editions lol. So, please let me know of your fav protection programs, prefferably Anti-Viruses, Anti-Spywares and Firewalls.

PS--I don't mess with Norton or Mcafee anymore:)

    Thx for any help rendered.

    Spending money... No problem.

Each one you listed and I just sat here staring at it. My guess is you narrowed this down to these 2 choices and overall, you picked some top notch programs.

I always like NOD32 for anti-virus, but I think it wont work in your environment, you really need set it and forget it type programs it seems like. Plus, your choices are fine. Im not sure which one though... Used both, flip a coin, I call heads.

Anti-spyware, I like both. Flip a coin, I call tails.

For firewall, as far as shareware goes, I have used Zone Alarm and like it a lot.

My issue with your choices is the backup stuff. This is an important area. More important then any because with a good backup, your covered from any disaster. Are you imaging or automating backup daily to an external device? I like Ghost many years ago, but it has fallen behind. Currently I have been using Acronis True Image for years. You can make complete drive images or individual folder\file backups. It can be very detailed and complicated or very simple and quick depending on your knowledge and what you want to do. Either way, I think it covers all bases. Demo available.

I'm about to drop a second (and smaller) hard drive in for backups only, and after reading your post in the FAQ's I saw you mentioned Norton Ghost. But after checking your Acronis link I think I like it better. Thx for the link.

I noticed that NOD32 seems mainly for home and business servers, but their HomeDesktop edition seems cool, why are you not recommending it in my situation? Thx for any replies :).........lol damn its small (9.7mb)!

My assumption, which was wrong, was I thought this was for a school, in other words, like 10 pc's for a school, not personal. NOD32 I do not recommend for the average user. Its been my opinion that it simply is not as user friendly as most. So, if the average user cant use it simply, then its more of a burden to them. Thats all :)

LOL, srry bro, no offense meant at all, I should have been clearer! But I see your point nonetheless about the "set-it-and-forget-it" programs:) . I guess I'm just going to grab a either a Panda Platinum Security Suite or Kaspersky's similar product. Plus I'm gonna grab the Acronis, once again thank you for the advice and links!

    Thx for your help bro:)

Oh, no offense taken at ALL :) Anything else, holler! Given that choice, lean towards Kaspersky, they tend to be cutting edge of discovery of new viruses, IMHO.
