    Just a quick introduction ...
I lost lots of electrons in my old PC and found that even after three days god couldn't do a repeat act " JESUS " ....so I got an all singing all dancing VISTA (ERRRRRRK YUK ) preprogrammed machine .

Now it is a repeat of more than 20 years computing of having a PC to sort out then when you get it running nicely some "Richard Crannium "( DISCOVER THE REAL WORDS ) works out a way how to screw it up and the platform and manufacturers have to bring out more secure and usually less effective products to go with it ...

Can anyone spare me a couple of grand to buy all the new compatible programe amd machinery to run with it????

None of the 5 1/2 yr old printers, scanners etc have any drivers written for Vista and the owners of them as sure as hell arn't going to write any because they make much more profit selling you new machine with those ever so much more expensive consumables.

Are there any working freebies like CD burners for vista around ...I cant find any , any photo editing freebies or organisers like some of the better XP ones .

Has any one any experience of any of the vista compatable " Paintshop Prop pro " sort of picture correcting /editing programmes ? If so can you give me the info as I will have to get a decent one for my photography work and website developments.

    regards

    Hi the missing electron,
    Welcome to Major Geeks.

Your question belongs in the software or drivers forum. By posting in the proper forum, you insure that the right people see your post. This way you get the help you need faster.

Most xp programs work with Vista. Definatly not all. If you want to stick with xp, you could always set up a dualboot. As far as printers go, it wouldn't hurt to try an xp driver.

There's Paint.net that you could try though I'm not sure if it's what you need. It's free and is compatible with Vista. Depending on how industrious you are, you may be able to dual-boot with XP, if XP drivers are available for your machine. There are many guides out there. Good luck

Guys thanks for your input , sorry for the delay in getting back to the thread. ... the new Compaq Presario SR5109 UK became faulty on the mother board at the broadband socket area a few hours after firing the PC up and it failed to transmit lots of data ... ALL PASS WORDS LOST/CHALLENGED ETC..

Hair pulled out to distraction for three days . took it back to the seelling shop .... eventually PC world replaced it after 3hrs of looking into the fault as they could not fathom out why the data was being lost.

Very few of the former XP compatible programmes will run on the Vista.

I now have another new Presario and am beginning to regret ever taking on the Vista platform as none of the 500 or so photo record CD's will run on it ..
I will be searching the forums and picking your brains for the solution.

    David
