Just An Interesting Tidbit of Info

Did you know that you can use a Windows 95 companion CD as qualifying media on a clean install of XP with an upgrade CD?

I don't understand... Then again, I tend to stay confused...

 

when you do a clean install with an upgrade disc of windows then it asks you to insert a disc to prove that you qualify for an upgrade.

companion cd? isnt that the thing with all the addons and stuff on it?

If so that is actually insane, since its not an OS!! Quite how by having one you qualify for an upgrade i dont understand, but never mind!

(BTW you still need the upgrade key, dont get too excited )

 

Well, sure you need the XP upgrade key, but you do not need a 95 key (not sure which you meant).


Actually the Companion CD has pretty much all the 95 OS files on it, if I recall correctly. Setup has been disabled, on it though.

 

I don't know why it works exactly, but I swear it is true. I experienced it first hand

 

That's awesome... kinda weird how it works though. A hole somewhere in the programming of XP maybe?

 

The 95 cab files are still on the Companion CD. I am guessing this is what it checks.
