I was wondering if someone could take a look at this log, from Hijackthis.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Most people are under the very mistaken misconception that HijackThis is a scanning and detection tool. It is not! HijackThis is simply a tool that is used to identify browser hijackers and in some cases it will show entries for some malware that is for instance running at startup. A HijackThis log shows the following:
    • a running process list with no reference to good or bad
    • it lists the contents of a selected group of registry keys that is an an extremely small subset of the tens of thousands of keys that may exist. Again no reference to good or bad.
    • and some of the above keys that are shown may show some non-Microsoft system services that are running. Again with no reference to good or bad.
The decision on what is good or bad is left a person with significant Windows and malware cleaning experience.

HijackThis does not come close to showing all malware that could be hiding on a PC. Anyone who has an infected computer and is relying on HijackThis without the benefit of running other scans such as Spybot, Windows Defender, BitDefender & Panda, CCleaner, etc. are more than likely still infected. In most cases, where there is one virus/trojan there are more.

The goal of this forum is to remove all malware, and this cannot be done properly by just seeing a HijackThis log.

To that end, you will have to tell us what problems you are having! If you believe you are having malware problems then you need to follow the instructions in the below sticky thread

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

Hmmm. I've tried rebooting into safe mode, and running avast, and spybot search and destroy, till they don't find anything more. Will this make SURE that all of the Malware is gone. It detected a few trojans before, but I clicked to delete them on avast. Also, if I have three computers on a local network, is it possible that they could spread to the other two? Some of the symptoms I had before were that hundreds of an application would open up when I rolled it over an icon, I have random files showing up in places they weren't before, such as random recycling bins. Also please note that I am running Windows Vista Ultimate

    Not necessarily.

Since you have not told us the exact name of the trojans....etc. I cannot answer what they could or could not do.

Did you turn off UAC at any point? If so, how long did you leave it off and is it still off.

Since you are running Vista, it would be better if you ran the newer version of our READ & RUN ME which is still in beta. The correct link for the new version is below:

Read & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

BUT I'm not sure why you say you are using Vista since your HJT log said: Platform: Windows XP SP2

Please take a look, I followed the Vista instructions.

I have Windows Vista, I ran AVG, but for some reason I couldn't get the report. One problem I'm having with this computer is that it won't shut off by itself. I try and turn it off, and it stays forever in the shutdown screen, light blue vista blackground, little rotating circle. The only way I can turn it off is by logging off manually first and then shutting down. Is this conducive of having a virus, or a completely different problem. Also, I was wondering why I have like around 5 different recycle bins just sitting around on my c drive. Previously I had a few trojan horses that I uncovered with avast, and deleted while scanning in safe mode. What can I do to make COMPLETELY sure I am virus free. Thanks for any help.

Please remain in one thread for your problems. I'll be merging this back to your first thread in a minute.

Why did you post a HijackThis log for a WinXP SP2 system in message # 1 and now post logs for a Vista system? Are you trying to work on two PCs at the same time?

I was going to try and clean up an xp, then I switched tacks, and just decided to go with the vista. Sorry for posting a new one.

Your logs from the Vista system do not reveal any malware issues and your problems do not sound like malware either. You should consider posting your problems in the Software Forum. You could have Windows Operating System issues or you could have conflicts with certain software installed.

However, I do have a few things that you should:

    Delete the below folders:
    C:\Users\Remy\AppData\Roaming\Sunbelt Software
    C:\ProgramData\Viewpoint

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

I will give you one suggestion that could be worth a try.

    Uninstall IObit SmartDefrag

Now see if after a reboot do you still have shutdown problems.

    You're welcome.

Did you see what I posted in message # 10 for you to try.

Start a new thread for your WinXP system and make sure you state in the thread that this is another system. Also if you think you have malware, the READ ME steps should be completed on the PC before posting and then attach the logs along with a statement of your remaining malware problems.
