Due to a major crash I have had to buy a new hard drive and reibstall XPpro. My IP/TCP is set to obtain IP automatically but the PC won't connect. I cannot get the IP off my other machine as that obtains it automatically and it doesn't show it. How do I get it to work? It has a LAN connected and also a wireless but I cannot even create a connection for that.

    Any ideas???

I've just gone over to the Microsoft site to get SP 3. They say not to download it if only updating just one PC but as I cannot connect with the Automatic Update I thought I would do it this way. Does anybody know if it will cause a problem?? I am hoping that it may include some newer drivers or something.

The service pack for XP will be fine. It's just rather large.

Look in Device Manager and see that your wired and wireless controllers are properly installed. To get there go to Start > Run and type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.

Some wired Network Controller drivers are native in XP but I am not aware of any wireless drivers that will install from the XP CD. They usually need to come from the manufacturer or a download site.
