this laptop just stalls out sometimes, and acts unpredicably at times. had trouble booting up as well.

Just wanted someone to look at the logs to see if there's anything weird there.

Attaching the logs, as instructed in "Read & Run Me First"

    Thanks

super anti spyware ran by itself, after I started this process. sorry! I wouldn't have run it if I had a choice.

also, forgot I wasn't supposed to, and ran the realplayer update. sorry.

Before we continue I would like for you to use MSConfig to put this machine back into normal start up mode

Re run Malware Bytes and attach the new log.

Delete this folder unless you know what it is for.
    C:\Documents and Settings\Elisa Farmilant\Local Settings\Application Data\fyephttk

    and these files...
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Elisa Farmilant\Local Settings\Application Data\kgyvhsrt.log
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Elisa Farmilant\Local Settings\Application Data\ogvwssiw.log
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Elisa Farmilant\Local Settings\Application Data\pwdkospw.log
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Elisa Farmilant\Local Settings\Application Data\qtsamasn.log
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Elisa Farmilant\Local Settings\Application Data\tpqrtdaq.log
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Elisa Farmilant\Local Settings\Application Data\ux28k8k70xg6ehd13ev2e

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

Well I shouldn't really show favour but I would go with MSSE ;)

    Went back to normal startup.
    Ran Malwarebytes

When i was trying to delete the folders it kept stalling out, could
not get back to the web page with the instructions. Just got the hour
glass if I moused over it at the bottom of the screen. If I minimized
the "folders window" it just disappeared.

Tried to delete that folder but it just stalled out. Rebooted, then
the weather channel tried to update, even though I clicked on the x in
the upper right hand corner it kept going to the next screen. Don't
want or need the weather channel.

While trying to delete the files, suddenly the folder window changed
to a page that said google desktop has been updated

finally deleted that folder and those files now.

ran mgtools get log and am attaching it.

the laptop is running slow, and everything takes a long time.

the local shop that ended up fixing the other laptop I was working on said that most of the computers he sees that have viruses on them were using free antivirus software, and that he never sees computers with viruses that use norton or mcafee. I have used both of those in the past, but stopped using norton because it took over the machine, wouldn't let you use other spyware programs, and slowed the system down too much. he said that with the new norton with windows 7 (which I have on my work computers, not this laptop) you won't even notice it's running. I stopped using mcaffee many years ago because, if i remember correctly I still got a virus on my machine.

    thanks for your help.
    Elisa

Logs look good now. You will have to post in software to further discuss "slowness" Now, clarify for me, did you run Malware Bytes again, and if so did it find anything?

You would begin a new thread in the Software Forum here. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
