just to ask

this is more a question than a cry for help.
when i boot up in the morning i get pop ups asking if i would like to bookmark this page even though my browser is not open plus sometimes even on MGs i will get ads popping up, now this is not a big problem as they always go away when i click the cancel button and most of the day i don't see them again.

Well Tim i must have made some sort of mistake during READ&RUN i went through all the steps and nothing showed up except Spybot found 1 tracking cookie.
my PC would not load COMBOFIX.EX and later when i tried to run it my PC locked me out and no matter what i did i could not get access so i re-formatted, lucky that i have all my progs on another Hard Disk.

i have no idea what i did but it must be my fault as i have used Read&Run before without problems.
but all is now ok just a bit of work to re-install every thing

 

Hi BILLMCC66

There was a buggy copy of Combofix out a few weeks ago for I think 7 hours. I suspect that something along those lines happened and that it wasn't your fault. If that problem is starting up again, it needs to be known.

I appreciate, as always, your great nature.

I used the new shortened version and stuck exactly to the format all was well untill COMBOFIX;

but it's not a problem now as my PC is pure as the virgin snow? so lets see if i can mess it up again

 

I like the virgin snow.

The question is (still), did you download the version of Combofix you ran just in the past few days or did youi download it and run it 10 days ago? It matters to us to know right away if this is the old problem which has been fixed and you got caught with that buggy copy or if there is a new buggy copy as of the past 3 days or so.

Sorry ABRI i thought you understood it was from the new short version i used last week but for some reason my PC would not complete the download for COMBIFIX and (silly me) i tried to run it not knowing i did not have the full download, thats whet it locked me out

I'm glad to hear it was probably something unrelated to that one buggy version. I had understood about the new short version, but we've been using that version for around 4 months, so it wasn't clear from your description what time frame you were talking about.
