K-lite Codec Pack - Please Explain

    System: Windows 10 Home version 20H2

    Today I noticed that the K-Lite Codec Pack was installed on my laptop 2 days ago. I don't know how this was installed since I did not explicitly install it.
    (1) Do I need this?
    (2) Should I uninstall it?
    (3) Is it safe?

    Have you ever had any problems playing any audio or video media? If not, uninstall it.
    I'm on 20H2 and the default codecs satisfy all my needs.
