Any ideas on how to get rid of this. I've run all the usual suspects, adaware, spybot, norton antivirus. and it doesn;t seem to want to go. I ran hijackthis on it as well and removed this:

    "O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kalvsys] C:\windows\system32\kalvvlo32.exe"

but it seem to reactivate itself on deletion. and is still there when i run hijackthis again

is it worth starting in safe mode and trying to remove it

i looked in the system folder for it as well with show hidden files activated and it wasn't there

    any help would be appreciated

    Hey guys,

Hate to jump in and then run, but I've run into the same issue in this thread:

Can't find a file using search

Still trying to figure it out and had a few ideas, but thought you might want to take a peek as well!

    PP :)

Well one note about search with WinXP, you have to set search options properly to locate hidden and or system files:

Click Search and the Select "All files and folders"
Enter the filename you want to search for in the "All or part of the file name:" box,
    Now select "More advanced options"
Make sure the following check boxes are checked:
    - Search system folders
    - Search hidden files and folders
    - Search subfolders
    Then click the Search button.

But note one IMPORTANT thing: even this will not find files in c:\windows\downloaded program files
They will not appear in Win Explorer or by a Search no matter what options you choose. You need to use the command prompt or a program like ExplorerXP is very useful for this.

PP, I will post this in your other thread too!

What I was saying is that this is likely the "EliteBar / SearchMiracle" Installer and that there may be a number of kalv**** files on the machine. As you note, the trick is to find them!!
