I finally setup KDE 4.0 on Linux Mint.

I am not sure if I like it as much as Compiz on Gnome I was used to.

 

I hate the default start menu, but the rest looks OK. I started off (many years ago) preferring Gnome, went off it slightly when I learned more about Linux, and found things easier in KDE anyway. Then experimenting with older machines and lighter desktops, I found iceWM more to my liking - when it's configured right anyway, as most distros make little or no effort and leave the default don't scroll menus on mouseover, which is annoying and illogical. I also like XFCE which has improved a lot in the last year or so. For my more powerful machines, I do like the latest version of Gnome though

 

KDE 4.0 is not pretty to config.

All over the Kubuntu Forums it is posted this is still a Beta.

Black screens, had to manually install almost everything, and then to zip a file took me over an hour.

This is not for the faint of heart on older systems.....

 

Im kind of suprised you bothered with it. KDE is a POS until there are some point releases under its belt.

 

I could not tell what was giving me the grief- buntu borked, or Mint malfunction or what.

So I read it was sorta repaired..... nope.

At least it is easy to install gnome on top of it and then change the login...

AND I did get my /usr/local cleaned out....
