Kahlyn's Surgery is tomorrow. 7am we have to be there, for surgery at 8. They're taking out her Tonsils, Her adenoids (again! they grew back?!?) deep cleaning her ears so they can send the mucus away for testing, and inserting new tubes. One shot, to hopefully end all the ongoing ear problems.

Please pray this works, if it doesnt they need to drill her sinuses which involves a drill in my baby's FACE... ick.

If anyone wants to send Kay a get better e-card, PM me and I'll send you my e-mail address. If you already have it, it's spelled KAHLYN.

Off to boil the house so it's disinfected when we come home.

Good luck Wenchie. It's always distressing when one's kid is sick... :(

I'll be thinking of you and your daughter tomorrow. It is always so hard when it is your child. You wish you could be in their place and they not having to go thru it. She will do fine. Kids are tough, resilient and bounce back so fast. Hopefully this will clear it all up.

I hope all goes as planned, Wenchie. It's always a stressful time when dealing with our children's health and well-being.

Hopefully, the surgery will fix up the problems this time, and it will be over and done with quickly.

I can't sleep, i'm so nervous that i got up at 4:45 and mopped...

I mean these are all common surgeries, one at a time, but all in one shot leaves her wide open for infection, and the doctor doesnt instend to prescribe an anti-biotic as a preventative measure, only "if it becomes necessary" So I'm going to throw a screaming cuss fit and not leave without one, because in my mind waiting until there is a problem is too late when it could have been avoided in the firstplace, and Kay has suffered enough.

    Just so nervous.

Go scream at the doctor to get that prescription. If infection comes up, you're ready to get rid of it. If it doesn't, that's good news. It's only when there is an infection when antibiotics are necessary. Have to be prepared.

Prayers are with you and Kahlyn. :)

Kahlyn's surgery went fine. She woke up hysterical, passed out on mom, had narcotics, and is now stoned.

The doctor came out after the procedure. He was not smiling. The tissue where the adenoids had been, and the skin tissue in the middle ear, are so deformed from infection that they resemble a scraped knee. The issue is not bacterial, it's ... Crap, what's the word? Systemic. Meaning, it's an immuno defect.

    I ALREADY KNEW THAT?!?

So basically, there is nothing that this surgery accomplished other than to confirm what we already knew and remove the tonsils to prevent issues later on. Remember that shot she has after we had her immunity tested and for CF? And the ears cleared up for about 3 months? It was a pnuemochocal booster shot, and she is going to need them regularly from now until they figure out what to do. We may be sent to Strong Memorial in Rochester. (they're really good)

So.. Nothing. She's fine, she's watching charlottes web, but nothing is better, nothing has changed, and nothing is going to be any time soon. I feel very lost.

At least Kay's okay, and the surgery was kinda okay too.

Try and take some time for yourself to unwind and relax, young Wench, you need it. :)

    Very frustrating day Wenchie; sorry.

If that pnuemochocal booster shot can give 3 months of relief per shot, that should at least help keep things leveled out while they're figuring out what to do next. Rochester is where Twinny's grandson was, isn't it? If so, they do good things there.

So, depressing day today, yes. But looks like there may be some better days ahead.

Yes, that's where, they're awesome. My brother was sent there after being misdiagnosed 12 times and not only did they figure out what was wrong, they put him on the road to recovery.

And I know it's a start, it's just so god damned frustrating, and while it annoys me it physically injurs Kahlyn, and she keeps having to go through all this heartache and pain for essentially NOTHING and I just want her to get better. I want her to be okay for ever notjust for a little while, and I feel so helpless. :(

Figured I'd update. Kay officially wont stay in bed, and has destroyed the house... twice. She's officially almost back to normal, and alot sooner than expected. She's going back to school monday... or she may die.

Gosh Wenchie! I disappeared for a while and missed all of this! Hope everything works out with Kay. It's a good sign that she's terrorizing the place :D.

We're going through similar stuff with Drexel. I came home early from Bushnell with Drexel on Thursday night because another lump showed up on his neck and he had a fever. It all just looked too familiar. Took him to his pediatrician Friday and got him on antibiotics with an order to take him in to Children's Hospital if he lost any range of motion in his neck. Sure enough Saturday morning he was in pain and couldn't turn his head. I brought him in and he's been admitted with an infected lymph node. They've got him on IV antibiotics and hopefully it will go down in a couple of days, but I can't help wondering is this going to become a regular occurance for us? Why is this happening and is there anything I can be doing to prevent it? His adenoids were taken out in February as well as an abcess drained on the right side. This is on the left side this time.

I know that helpless feeling. I just want my kid to be healthy. I can't stand that look he gives me while they're poking him as if he's saying, "Mom, why aren't you protecting me from this!" It's breaking my heart. He's a pretty resilient kid and bounces back pretty fast, but he just looks so small in that hospital bed. Eric's with him tonight, and I'll most likely be there tomorrow night. They think he'll be there until Monday.

Wenchie and Cindy, I would go absolutely nuts in your situation(s). We all want our kids to be healthy and happy, and when the Doctors can't immediately fix it, the tendancy is to want to rip them a new ... ummm ... anus.

Wenchie, it sounds like the hospital that Kahlyn will be going to is great, and there are so many new things they can try, you can really be optimistic, though I know it's difficult right now. Same for you Cindy, and Drexel.

Peace and prayers to all of you.
