Hey I have a Win98 (I know I need a new PC) with DSL hooked up to a wired router.

Now another family member has a new XP system that I am going to add to the router, assuming I get the system connected easily enough I wonder if the new system will instantly have access to my win98 PC hard drive through the "network neighborhood". I've noticed when hooking up peripherals to the XP it is very quick about auto-mating connections.(Yeah I know I'm way behind on the XP :)

I ask because I do not want any one else in the house having access to my PC but can't find settings that describe anything like "block on network". I assume I'm supposed to go under "control panel"..and then "network" icon but don't know what to do then.

There is also a "Network Neighborhood" icon on my desktop that has been there forever but it only has this thing that says "entire network" and nothing else because there aren't any other PC's connected yet. Maybe other options will come up once there is a PC attached?

So how do I keep my PC unaccessible on a wired network?

If you do not specifically "share" any files, folders or printers, the other computer will not have access to your PC.
You could set up a log-in password as an additional layer of security if you want.

If you do not allow file sharing, then no files will be shared. If you go to your network settings and turn off or delete file sharing you should be good to go.
