I heard that Kentucky is in 2 time zones while I was watching the USA election coverage. The reason I am bringing this up is that the Southerners in our State of Queensland want Daylight Saving Time (DST) and nearly every other area (North and West) do not want it.

    My questions:
    When was this introduced?
Is Kentucky so wide that it needs 2 time zones?
I assume both move an hour forward each time DST comes around.
What would happen if there was a poll in KentuckY? Would they still vote to retain 2 x DST zones?
Do all transportation timetables change when DST is introduced, and revert back when DST closes each year? (I assume they do)
What do business owners think of it?
Any other USA states on 2 time zones?
Do we have any Kentuckians as members of MG?

there's a city in indiana that pokes fun at DST and there's a line drawn down one of it's streets to show where one time zone ends and one starts...

on second thought, i might be mistaken about that, i may have been thinking about 2 adjacent cities, one in indiana and one in Illinois, hence, the time zone change...i'll keep looking..

Thanks guys for the references. I can't believe the number of USA states that have 2 time zones according to the Wikipedia link. :cool

Alaska, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas.

Take Florida, for example. Why would it have 2 time zones? It is not a very wide state (East to West) when compared to Callifornia (East to West) which has only one time zone. :confused

I thought there was only 3 time zones in the USA. I had forgotten about Mountain Standard Time.

All very interesting and it must be costing those states a packet of $$$ in administration, tourism, transportation schedules, etc. Bazza

PS: I'd like a link to a map of the USA that I can print out in Landscape mode with all the named 48 mainland states on it. Alaska and Hawaii optional. ;) so I can check this out further. Anyone got any links to such a map? Baz

Time zones were introduced when the Railroad was first built.
