Keyboard and games

Hi!
Don't know if I should post here or in the software forum...
The question is: I used to play games using the keyboard without any problems (in older versions of XP) but now with the system updated the cursor keys don´t mix with the letters... ex: can´t do down-left and an action button. So, can this be fixed somehow? what causes this problem, hardware/drivers or OS related issue?
One thing, using the cursorkeys from the numpad works fine, but 8,2,4,6 is impossible...

I guess nobody knows... Thanks anyway, and I think is time to get used to the gamepads...
