Keyboard and mouse problems

Ok here's a new twist. I sometimes get a 'Keyboard is locked out-Unlock the key" error while booting my machine. Several resets and it fixes itself. Another strange intermittent occurence is once windows is up and running my mouse pointer will not move. The buttons and scroll wheel work, but the pointer just stays stationary. Sometimes when I hit the Num Lock, and/or Caps Lock keys, the mouse pointer wil resume normal ops. Sometimes hitting those keys won't make it move, but later in the session, while navagating with the keyboard (yes, I figured out how to do that, except getting a 'right click' is kicking my butt) the pointer suddenly comes to life. I used MS support and did nothing to help. All they had me do was remove all traces of a mouse from the registry and reboot. I'm also having trouble getting my puter to boot in 'safe mode'. It will not go into the Start Up Menu by holding the CTRL button and I've also tried the Win95 method of hitting F8. I went into Device Manager and made sure "Enable Start UP Menu' was selected and tried again. No joy. Oh, almost forgot, I also can't seem to get my floppy drive to work. I haven't even tried to fix that problem yet. Anyway, have fun with this one. Thanks, in advance.

Do you have any other mice or keyboards you could test on the system? At least that way you'd narrow it down to the computer itself or the input components.

Yes, I have swapped in spares with same results. One more thing, I have scanned for viruses, ad ware, etc, and all is well.

 

Fixed the keyboard and mouse problem. Believe it or not it was my power supply causing the problem.
