I am using the on-screen keyboard to type this. I am running Windows ME. My keyboard won't work, I have no sound and my wireless mouse does not work. My regular mouse is working. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

What happens when only the keyboard is connected to the computer (making sure that the keyboard is connect in the right spot....) Can you get into the bios, of your computer?

It is connected properly. I have tried to unplug and plug back in several times. I have never been into the bios.

Is the keyboard totally dead or just not typing? Meaning, if you toggle the "Caps lock", "Num lock", and/or "scroll lock" keys, do the lights toggle at the top of the keyboard? If you press and hold the spacebar while the computer is turning on, do you get an error? (if yes to either or both, it is very possibly a software issue; if not, something is probably physically wrong).

The only thing I can think of off hand is using the on-screen keyboard to type "msconfig" into the run line and making sure the dot is in normal startup (incase something vital has been toggled off).

Anything special happen before this problem started?

    Once again ( :) )....

Can you get into the bios of your computer, via your keyboard?

I checked to see if it was checked in run msconfig and it was checked.
When booting I am getting a message that Windows could not process registry. It said to reboot in command prompt and run SCANREG /FIX. I was not feeling comfortable doing that. There is only 1 light under the number 1 near the moon. No keys are responding.

    Then, I'd recommend running the chkdsk /f /r c:

    In my humble opinion.......

Can you explain that in nongeek terms?
    Thanks!

Either in safe mode or normal mode.....

Click START, RUN, Type in CMD (repss enter)

Now, type in CHKDSK c: /r (press enter). Notice the spaces.

    Select (Y)es on next reboot.

Reboot. Start, Turn off computer, reboot/restart....

I've seen this check last 30 minutes to 3 hours. So be prepared to wait.

My daughter brought her keyboard home from college and I plugged it in. That one works fine. (I have not tried what you suggested yet.) I still have no sound. When I try to open up the volume controls, nothing pops up. I also noticed that when I went under add/remove programs nothing was listed. There are always many things listed in that window. Have any further suggestions? Should I still try what you suggested in your last message?

Also, my daughter's keyboard did not use a USB port. A very old keyboard. I tried my thumb drive in the usb's and it worked. Today I noticed that a wmv video would not play. The window opened, there was a picture but it never played. The sound showed it was playing, but there was no sound. This is getting confusing.
