keyboard/mouse problems

hi i just got a computer running an asus a7v8x, AMD 2800+ xp, win xp, power color radeon 9200, kingston ram (256), when i boot sometimes i will go into things IE the internet, the mouse and keyboard will frezze up interly and i have to restart, then it will work fine of happen again, whats the problem? thanx,Max ON canada

 

robo: i dont think its the ram, im running xp pro on a 750mhz with an 8mb video card and 192mb of pc100 ram, and it never freezes up

 

Xp wil run on 256mb, but that can depend on what running.
Maybe someting using up all your memory?
Go to start/programs/accessories/system tools/system info, then check in the summary area how much physical memory available?
Check ASUS probe too.
I'm not saying is ram, only a possibility, that you should be able confirm.
Also is the amount of ram installed all recognized, may want to run memory test, maybe is not up to snuff?
What kind of keyboard and mouse are you using, usb, ps2, wireless?
Uninstall and reinstall?
Try different keyboard & mouse ( maybe just basic type)

 

the newmadmax and I put it together. Its strange. If you restart it works fine but if you turn on from cold boot it will freeze, it does't matter what you do game, internet etc... I had it hooked up to my kvm switch so we are trying a regular mouse and keyboard to see if maybe that was the prob. I have a optical mouse and multimedia keyboard and never put drivers on his as it always seems to work fine on the other rigs I have put together......let ya know thanks! for the help

I dont remember what my solution was, had freeze up's at one point, but still use same KVM, I may have just switched cables one pc to other???

Disconnect your KVM, I'll bet it dont freeze.

 

think your right asus. He tried it and seems to work fine. told him to play some games and stress it and then shut down and reboot to see if it happens again. Hopefully not. Temps seem fine even for leaving on the pad. He's running at 40-42c at idle. thanks again
