First, thanks for reading and possible solutions.

Problem: Keyboard only works after accessing UAC. User Account Control.

Computer: HP DV5 1235DX. (Multimedia Laptop) ONLY MOD Dual Battery
OS Vista Home Premium SP2 (Auto Updates ON)
    Anti V Microsoft Security Essentials
Externals Plugged in USB DONGLE for remote control and POWER.

UPON Cold Boot, Restart, sleep, hibernate
Keyboard does not respond. (Pad does, Right Click Does, left click erratic..brings up program properties, instead of launching.)

    Safemode command prompt.
Keystrokes work, but ENTER does not

Any program that I start that has UAC start first... I Just need the UAC splash screen, I click Cancel.

    KEYBOARD NOW WORKS.

    Any ideas?

Hi, tjk59. Welcome to Major Geeks. :)

I run Vista Ultimate on a Dell laptop and have had problems with UAC as well. It won't allow streaming internet radio in Winamp and won't allow me to use Revo Uninstaller in hunter mode. Since I'm the only one that uses my computer, I turned UAC off and both apps work fine.

Open Windows Help and Support in the Start Menu and enter "turn off UAC" (without the quotes) in the search field and hit enter. The instructions for turning UAC off and on will appear.

Make a restore point before you do that.

I have visions of UAC being turned off then the keyboard will not work because there is no UAC prompt to click. End result - computer with non-working rather than broken but eventually working keyboard.

    Thank you for your responses.

The Laptop is a click happy relative's. Would rather not disable UAC.

Just some musings... Is there a way to force UAC access prior to Windows logon splash screen? I guess, maybe, I'll have to learn Vista's Registry Protocols and procedures.

Unfortunately, I don't believe there is as the level of control is set by the user's permissions as set by the administrator. But, if you find something, please post the solution here as it may help someone else with the same issues.
