keyboard problem

i am having a keyboard malfuncton, when ever i use certain keys 4 different things come up. im using on screen keyboard to type this & the text file shows what happens when i hit certain keys.

 

Agree with plodr. Also have you unplugged and reconnected the device?

Is it wired or less? if less have you changed the batteries? Reconfigured?

Have you done decent virus/malware scans?

 

I tried hooking up a wireless keyboard from my desktop and that works fine, so I think that the current keyboard is fried maybe? If thats the case I can buy a new one for around $20 but the only store around here that deals with computers said it will cost about $80 to install a new laptop keyboard, is it hard to install one? I have installed new ram and harddrives in this laptop but I have never done keyboards or anything like that.

It really depends on the model- and how comfortable you are dissassembling a laptop. It could be very simple, or it may involve completely taking the machine apart. Finding the replacement may also be difficult.

Is this a recent problem? Did you spill something on the laptop?

 

I think someone spilled something on it. I was cleaning under the keys and noticed some sticky stuff and it smells like coffee so I think someone used it.

Its a Gateway T-6330u laptop by the way, not sure how hard it would be to replace it. The part I can find for $21 on ebay or $49 from the manufactures at mundocorp.com

 

I agree that it depends on the make/model. Many laptop keyboards are attached via a "ribbon" like connector and take 2-3mins at most. The guy in the shop trying to charge $80 is a bit of a rip off.
