Keyboard Stopped Working

Alright so I've tried almost every troubleshooting step out there and then some. I had this keyboard that started acting funny. First the Ctrl and Alt would stop working and randomay theyd work again. Well I've been wanting a new keyboard anyways and I figured the keyboard was at fault so I got a new awesome mechanical keyboard. Was told it was plug n play. Plugged it in, it did a cool light up feature and..nothing. it doesn't work. Restarted the computer and it works in bios and before windows 10 load up comes I can turn caps and num on and off but once windows starts I cant. So it's a functioning keyboard but it's not functioning in Windows. I check the port. All my usb ports work with all my devices. I've moved the keyboard to another port. Tried others since I have 5 or 6 boring usb keyboards. None work. I've done SFC /scannow and it pulls nothing up. I've Uninstalled the keyboard driver and restarted the computer and it would reinstall it but nothing. There's no yellow or red triangles near anything in device manager. All drivers are up to date. I've done everything. So now instead of mass Google searching, I'm making my own thread for once. Can someone help me please??

Did the keyboard work OK in your previous version of Windows?

Yes but ive been on 10 for a while...since it was released. it started acting weird a week ago so i got a new keyboard. it didnt work so i tried everything from unplugging to reinstalling the keyboard hid keyboard drivers. even tried old keyboard but nothing. they both still light up (there colored light up keys). the keyboards are fine and the usb slots work and the keyboards work in bios but not windows. (this on screen keyboard is so slow)

Is the system a PC desktop or a Laptop? Is the keyboard that stopped working originally a laptop keyboard or separate device?
What is the brand name and exact model number of the system?

Desktop, custom built. So which part would you like the name and model of? It's weird I've never had this. Normally if I did, Uninstalled the driver and turning the computer off with it unplugged use to work to reinstall the driver but not this time. It's strange. It still gets power, the fn key works to customIze the keys, and it works in bios. It just doesn't transmit anything to Windows itself

But have you thoroughly checked for malware? Recommend you run through the MajorGeeks Malware Guide

Yes sir. Went through Malawarebytes, let it do its course, then turned it off and ran hitmanpro. Also ran ccleaner

That wont be enough to show the system is malware free. Do the steps that earthling linked you to.

MBAM is very good but it is not an AV. What AV do you have running?

I don't have Daemon tools, and I have already rum those two, and cleaned up with cc cleaner. I don't use system restore so I didn't bother with system restore and the UAC controls were already disabled. That's what I got from the guide anyways. I've been on this for 3 days trying to fix it :( I just wanna game after work, with what little time I get instead of all this but nothings helping. That I do I mean.

If you want to be sure that the system is malware free, carry out the steps in the guide linked to you then start a new thread in the malware forum. A trained expert will then assist you further.

Well but is there any solutions I can get in case it's not Malaware relaTed? I'm still sure it's driver related

That's putting the cart before the horse. Save yourself some time and do the 'Read & Run Me First' guide steps and get a clear answer on malware. If the system is genuinely clean and still problem exists, it can be looked at again.

Yes but ive already done that. Im currently in the process of running it all again. Like before its not pulling anything up. I stay generally malaware free, since i know what to look for and not go after or download or open, and i do these scans on a daily basis (im paranoid a bit)

You haven't already done that, or you would have a thread in the malware forum with a trained expert advising you.
It's up to you what you do now. It's your system.
If it is not malware related (which neither we nor you know for certain) there are other steps to take but steps that shouldn't be taken until you know for sure the system in malware free.

But i am certain i am. I've been doing for this for a few days in between going to work and sleep and i just want a solution that i havent tried :(

Thanks. So does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? :(

You could try the system file checker sfc /scannow from a command prompt, and/or run chkdsk. Either might help but if they don't then you could try the Tweaking.com Windows Repair tool, which often finds and fixes obscure problems. However if, despite your insistence, your system is not clean you are just wasting your, and our, time.

I had someone running XP with the same issue and we were never able to solve it. I miss the old P/S2 keyboard hookups. It just seems like, even though the keyboard was not hot swappable, there were fewer problems with non-functioning keyboards.

I saw one suggestion to unplug and plug the keyboard while the computer is running. It seems silly but it costs little effort to try.

Another suggestion that used to work but not sure if it is applicable with today's hardware was to unplug a desktop computer from the wall. This was to reset things. Let the plug out for 30 minutes. Then plug it back in and see if the keyboard works.

I only have one computer that uses a USB keyboard. It is running 32 bit Win 7 Pro. I checked and these drivers checking under HD keyboard devices:
    C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\kbdclass.sys
    C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\kbdhids.sys

Then I checked a 64 bit netbook that I plug a USB keyboard in from time to time and it has the same two drivers.

I'm not sure what Win 10 needs but I suspect those two drivers have been included in Windows for a long time. Do you have them?

You are not wasting our time by not following the advice two people have given you to properly rule out malware. It is your time wasted. In the time since your last post you could have done that. Why you haven't done that is a mystery. Earthling and me made it clear to you - do the malware checks FIRST. SFC wont help you until after you have done the malware checks.

But as Earthling said in post #21, if there is malware even Tweaking won't help. So ruling that out first is still the advice.

BUT that's what I was trying to say is I ruled out the Malaware part. I didn't go to the forums because I actually take classes in ITE through cisco. I've learned generally how to clean a computer up when it comes to that. I took care of that before I came to this site. I came here because I blew out my options and wanted further knowledge on suggestions I hadn't tried from people that have done this stuff longer than I have

Excellent question. It does not. I did in fact try that on the second day

That's a real puzzler, you may want to try reinstalling your OS.

Check whether you've got FilterKeys enabled in Ease of Access.
Have you tested the keyboard in a new (temporary) user profile?

He can't create one since his keyboard won't work.

I can navigate fairly easily with my mouse and on screen keyboard. I try the filter keys and new profile. Reinstalling OS is on the last of my agenda of things to try. Will update you guys when I try those things

Alas filter keys wasn't on and the new account did nothing. It stops working during the splash screen (I tested by spamming the caps and num keys to see when the lights stop turning off and on)

After some digging I think it might be a corrupt registry. Thoughts?
