I'm baffled again. My keyboard will not work ( I can't log in). I've tried a new keyboard ( both keyboards work on another computer ) and have checked all the usb ports and they're working. I've tried tapping (not pounding yet ) and sometimes I'll get an * (up to 3 of them ) when trying to sign in. The delete key works as well as the num lock and caps lock keys.

I've tried going into bios and the usb ports are enabled, or I suppose my mouse wouldn't work. It doesn't show anything specific about peripherals. I've even tried setting bios to default with no luck, but when I restarted the computer I got a screen messing about possibly a windows update. Would that have any effect on this?

My motherboard is a Gigabyte Z95X-gaming 5 using an I7-4790K cpu (never overclocked).

As an emergency, use the mouse to get on-screen keyboard
In w10 - settings- devices , check stings on mouse and (touchpad on mine, should be mouse and ) keyboard on a pc, I would think -scroll down to usb, make sure the switch is on to tell you if there are usb problems.
The windows update should not be involved, but if it is windows 10,anything seems possible, at the moment.

So the keyboard is working to enter and move around in BIOS? What OS? Bad update? try rolling back? There was an upperlimit key in the reg for Win 7 that keeps the keyboard from working. The mouse works? (assuming Win7) On the log in screen on the bottom left click and select on screen keyboard.
    For more google "keyboard upperfilters"

Hi foogoo (lol that's a great handle)
Only the mouse is usable even in bios, but the keyboard is now working again:confused:! I'm not sure why, all I did was put on my headset which is in a usb port in the front of the case (that usb port does seem loose in the case) and now the keyboard works.
Could that headset that's connected to the front case usb port, that seems loose, cause a short (caused by a twist of the headset wire) effect the other usb ports which would only allow the enter, delete, and caps lock keys to work but nothing else? Then by simply moving the headset wire completes the usb connection again possibly ending a short?
Or is my computer actually alive and just tormenting meo_O

You definitely need to have that USB port/headset repaired/replaced. That WAS the cause of your problem.

Thanks all, I'll check the headset in this computer and see if it's causing the problem and I'll see if I can somehow secure that usb port.
