Keylogger removal

A techno geek soon to be ex placed a keylogger on the comp. He says it was deleted, but trust has been violated.

Have run spyware programs and even looked at hijackthis - and have not found any suspicious entries. CCleaner is run regularly, again, the deleted files do not *look* suspicious.

But yesterday the computer *locked* while I was entering data into a banking program, and the internet light on the modem was blinking like mad.

I suspect remote access.

Do I need to reformat? Techno geek has taken all software disks, so I would need to purchase all new software. And, comp was built by him, so I have not a clue if the problem could be hardware related as well.

How to check for remote access programs or keyloggers?

Also, when I turn on Windows firewall, my internet does not work. I am not sure why that is happening now. I remember having the firewall up in the past.

What is my first step?

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)

• Bitdefender
• Panda Scan
• HijackThis
