    Hi all-

A few months back someone that I had exchanged emails with got a keylogger onto my comptuer and I did not detect it right away. The person was unfortunetly able to steal a bunch of money and websites that I owned by getting my passwords and access codes etc. I started to use Roboform and did pretty extensive sweeps using Macafee.

However today I was staring at my computer monitor (don't ask) and I noticed this strange little blue square about 5 pixels wide at the top left corner. With the standard windows xp blue sky wallpaper this is not seen at all it just blends in. However with the white wallpaper that I have on it now you can see this blue square really easily.

I think this is some sort of an icon. I can pick up the square and move it. However I can not seem to delete the icon. Just move it around the desk top that is it.

Is there any way to detect if this is for sure spyware or a keylogger app?

    Thanks
    Ichibanda

    Hi

Sorry to hear of your past problems due to keyloggers and stolen monies.

The best way to determine if you have any malware on your PC is to run the below guide, then attach the logs as requested to your next two posts, and our malware expert will be able to tell you if indeed you have malware on your PC and they will issue you some instructions to help you remove them.

Also it maybe a good idea to take a screenshot of the blue square so we can see it, also if you rigthclick it does it have options?

Taking Screenshots and HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

Our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
