This is a question only. I have repaired the problem [fingers crossed]

I found it in the file located on my HP computer at c:\HP\bin\terminator.exe .

I quarantind the file and then I went online and chatted with an HP tech. She said "That is a known trojan horse and you need to delete it." That was enough for me. I went into the quarantine file and deleted it. I then turned off system restore and rebooted the machine and it was gone.

My question is simply "What does this particular little nasty do?" I did a Copernic search and found several pages wherein people were complaining that they had also found the thing in their xx:\HP\bin\terminator.exe file; but there was nothing on what it does.

Can anyone direct me to where I can read up on this thing and see if it was what was causing me grief a couple of weeks ago?

You need to speak to someone at HP that has a little more knowledge of the software they install on your PCs. This is their file. They actually install 3 very stupidly named files on your PC that many malware programs pickup due to the poor choice of names.

    C:\HP\bin\FondleWindow.exe
    C:\HP\bin\Terminator.exe
    C:\HP\Bin\KillIt.exe

You may be able to see these on your HP System Recovery CD along with many more.

Here is a thread by HP on the terminator.exe file:

Here is a threads by HP even admitting to the last one and also admitting that they have no idea what it is for (.....IDOITS!!!!)

I looked on the recovery disks but did not find the program terminator.exe. I guess I'll have to do without it until further notice.

    Thanks, Chas.

If you don't miss it, you probably never need it to begin with. It may only be something that is needed i you ever have to do a system recovery.
